Wollaton Historical & Conservation Society
Mission Statement
The Society exists to protect and enhance the principal Conservation Areas which include the Village core and Wollaton Park. In order to do that the Society encourages historic research and seeks to encourage people living in all parts of Wollaton and Wollaton Park to learn more about the history of the area and thereby to help ensure its survival and conservation.
The Society holds a number of talks on local history during winter months. In the summer, in addition to opening the Dovecote Museum, the Society provides a number of guided walks around the area of greater Wollaton and visits to other historical sites of interest.
More about us
The Wollaton Village & Park Conservation Society was formed in 1968 in the face of threatened redevelopment of the historic village square, which happily was averted.
Over the years the Society has many achievements to celebrate; the restoration of the 16th century Dovecote is just one.
Researching local history has become an important part of the Society's work, and in 2011 we changed our name to reflect this. Now we are known as the 'Wollaton Historical & Conservation Society' or WHaCS for short.
This website does not serve to provide a comprehensive reference source for the history of Wollaton; for that there are many great publications and books, some as highlighted under Publications or obtainable through some of the websites on the Links page.
A brief introduction to Wollaton Village can be found on our Village page.
Information on Wollaton Dovecote can be found on our Dovecote page.
